club history
It is nearly 40 years since the club experienced the most sensational golf season. Three local players, all from Talbot Green, laid the foundations to a remarkable period in the history of the club. E.N(ted)Davies won his first welsh cap in 1959, one of his 46 from that year to 1974 when he was appointed the Welsh Captain. He won the Welsh stroke play title in 1967, the same year that David Stevens lost in the Welsh boys championship final. The latter won that same stroke-play competition in 1969 and was joined in the welsh team by David Adams. David Stevens went on to win 29 caps and many other County titles whilst David Adams represented his country 20 times between 1969 and 1977.
Ted Davies moved to Prestatyn in 1972 but left behind him a large number of excellent golfers who were to mature in later years, again mostly products of the junior coaching scheme which had begun in the sixties, and many other players by now attracted by the achievments of the club together with its reputation for the 19 hole jollity. Ted had set the scene by winning the Welsh championships in 1970 and in the next ten years that title was won on no less than five occasions by a member of this club. Ted again in 1972 followed by David Adams in 1976 and David Stevens in 1977 and 1980. All three represented Wales in the European Championships captained by Ted Davies.
In 1976, the club achieved in that one year the Welsh Amatuer title (David Adams), the Victory Sheild Foursomes (the two Davids), the division one championships, the Glamorgan County title, and members of the first team played for the county winning the chanel league. This unique performance will probably never be equalled anywhere in the united kingdom.
The club had the honour of appearing on Welsh sportsview with Peter Walker and when asked to what did he attribute this amazing success the then captain could only reply that it was due to the friendliness and loyalty of all the members, their generosity in former years, the hard work coaching the juniors and of course their reputation as good hosts and excellent social ambience.
